Course Description
This seminar presents the neuroanatomy of the visual system and its importance in the development of movement, posture and sensorimotor function. The role of the visual system as a primary integrating system of all other sensory systems is presented with emphasis on the overriding influence of the visual system in learning, memory and motor control. Topics include: The Development of the Eye, Maturation of the Visual System, Basic Structures of the Eye, Vergence and Version, Strabismus, Visual Fields & Visual Pathways, The Occulo-Vestibulo-Cervical Triad, Parallel-Distributed Processing, The Role of the Cerebellum in Motor Control and Vision. Handouts included in PDF file format.
Learning Outcomes
1. Identify the primary role of vision in movement, posture and learning.
2. List the various types of eye mal-alignments.
3. List the basic structures of the eye.
4. Describe vergence and version.
5. Define strabismus.
6. Identify the various visual fields and how they function.
7. Describe the Occulo-Vestibulo-Cervical Triad and its importance.
