This seminar focuses on decision making for mealtime feeding, management of feeding and swallowing, oral-motor and respiratory treatment strategies that are essential for a functional foundation for successful feeding and swallowing. Influences of postural control and alignment, sensory processing and behavioral management that impact the development of feeding skills are presented. The relationship of lower GI and upper airway issues on the ability to develop oral-motor control are discussed.
1. Describe the difference between mealtime feeding management and feeding/swallowing treatment.
2. Formulate a treatment plan using strategies appropriate to the child’s feeding/swallowing and respiratory needs.
3. Discuss the influences of postural alignment, postural control, and the processing and integration of sensory information on mealtime feeding and feeding/swallowing treatment interventions.
4. Describe the integration of behavioral management strategies into mealtime feeding programs.
