RTS1 The Diagnosis of Rett Syndrome

Dr. Budden discusses the clinical features of Rett Syndrome, its incidence, onset, progression and various laboratory findings. Four clinical stages are identified from early onset stagnation stage to rapid destructive, pseudostationary and late motor deterioration stages.

RTS2 The Management of Rett Syndrome

Dr. Budden discusses the medical, therapeutic, educational and psychological management needs for children with Rett Syndrome. Topics covered include nutritional needs, seizure control, orthopedic concerns, feeding problems, communication and oral-motor function, hand use, mobility, training in self-help skills and emotional support for the families.

RTS3 Upper Extremity Splinting in Rett Syndrome

Rett Syndrome is a genetic disorder affecting young girls and is a progressive neurological disorder. Compulsive hand wringing and hands inside the mouth are significant problems. This video presents strategies for using splinting to interrupt stereotypic hand to mouth behaviors.

RTS4 Communication and Oral-Motor Function in Rett Syndrome

Rett Syndrome is a genetic disorder affecting young girls and is a progressive neurological disorder. Speech and communication and oral-motor function are significantly involved. This video presents strategies for dealing with this progressive disorder to maintain and in some cases improve function.

2. Describe the areas of management for children with Rett Syndrome.
3. Describe the issues involved in the need for upper extremity splinting in Rett Syndrome.
